The Universal Serial Bus, or USB, standard defines a connection interface for computers and other electronic devices and peripherals. USB 1.1 and older devices are generally slow when it comes to moving large amounts of data, such as music files, back and forth between devices. Newer USB 2.0 devices can transfer data to each other much faster. Newer USB devices are backwards compatible with older devices, though connection speeds will be limited by the older device. Mobile phone manufacturers often use smaller versions of the standard USB connectors called mini-USB and micro-USB for data transfer and charging.
