End of an iPhone fantasy

The free French newspaper 20 Minutes got its 15 minutes of fame with the publication of a full-page photograph of an iPhone on the day of Apple Computer's big announcement and the opening of the annual Apple Expo in Paris, reported the IHT yesterday.
And today rumors are still going around that 20 Minutes got the scoop.
But according to the Herald, the newspaper's fame turned to infamy when it became clear the photo was a fake and the attribution to Apple was an error.
''From the reaction in phone calls from readers, the image clearly spoke to the aspirations of what people might want Apple to announce,'' said Frédéric Filloux, executive editor of 20 Minutes. Filloux speculated that the mistaken credit may even have come from a journalist's desire for the product to exist.
In fact, the image was produced by the British design agency Mdi Digital Filloux said. The editor said he first saw the image in the British edition of the magazine MacUser.''
