Wireless vendors get pro-active with multimedia: Part2

Meanwhile, over in Berlin yesterday, Nokia was busy announcing several new N-series handsets with 3-megapixel cameras and video capability. It also rolled out award-wining British actor and film-maker Gary Oldman, who announced that he was so impressed with the video capabilities of the latest mobiles (and in particular Nokia's not-yet-released N93) that he plans to shoot a short film on his phone.

Oldman was helping to promote Nokia's Nseries Studio video initiative, a new interactive online community for mobile movies. The website can be found at: http://www.nokia.com/nseries/studio

''I am fascinated by the potential of mobile video devices like the Nokia N93,'' said Gary Olman. ''They allow us to catch the fleeting moments we observe in our daily lives and share them as they happen. The possibilities for film-making are endless - I'm looking forward to producing a short film on a Nokia N93 and I hope it inspires people to record the extraordinary moments in their ordinary days and share them with the world.''

Over the next few months, a selection of ''creative visionaries'' will be producing movies on the N93 and these will be premiered on the Nokia Nseries Studio, where they're available for downloading to mobile devices or PCs. In the summer, Nokia is planning to open up the site so people can upload and showcase their own mobile short films.

''Connected mobile video devices are the ultimate solution for spontaneous video recording,'' said Tapio Hedman, senior vice president, Multimedia Marketing, Nokia. ''With the Nokia Nseries Studio we're hoping to encourage more people to shoot and share their life experiences. And with the Nokia N93, people can capture these moments in unparalleled video quality from a mobile device.''
