Mobile graphics applications developer 3Dlabs Semiconductor announced this week its first media processor, which the company also touts as the world's first handheld media processor enabling H.264 content playback. In effect, the chip--dubbed the DMS-02--enables the development of mobile devices capable of processing high-definition video content based on the nascent Blu-ray and HD-DVD standards. ''Entertainment companies, game developers, operators and device makers alike should embrace the DMS-02 for its ability to render HD content on mobile devices while maintaining battery life,'' Envisioneering Group research director Richard Doherty said in a prepared statement. 12/2/2006 9:01:23 PM ---
