In the office of the future, cell phones, BlackBerrys and iPods will be able to charge up just by putting them on an office worker's desk, according to Reuters.

Office furniture maker Herman Miller.Inc. has licensed eCoupled, a system that eliminates the need for dedicated chargers and is embedding the technology in desktops.

The company would not say when the desk might make it to market, or how much it would cost.

eCoupled technology is powering a new ecosystem of consumer devices that can be powered and charged without wires. Portable electronic devices become truly wireless. Devices can easily travel from home to auto to office eliminating the need for cords and physical power connections. Fulton Innovation, Visteon, Motorola, Herman Miller and Mobility Electronics are working jointly to commercialize solutions in the portable consumer electronics arena.
