The Sony Ericsson W300i is yet another ''Walkman'' handset in the Sony Ericsson range, but this time it's a relatively low-end handset based on the upcoming Z530i model.
We did say relatively low end though - despite the fact the the W300i only comes with a 128x160 pixel display in 262,000 colours and a VGA resolution camera, it still comes with Bluetooth, expandable memory using Memory Stick Micro cards and a version of the well-liked Walkman multimedia software built in. There's an FM radio too.
The W300i is shipped with a 256Mb memory card as standard, and this is optionally expandable up to 1Gb. On top of that, the W300i has quad-band GSM and EDGE support, so this is a device that we could see competing in North American markets as well as in Europe and Asia.
One drawback with the Sony Ericsson W300i is the lack of external media controls. Also, inside the dedicated controls are pretty minimal, so despite all the snazzy ''Walkman'' branding, the W300i doesn't look to be as well laid out as the Samsung E770, for example.
It's a good looking phone though, and we have every reason to believe that it will be a very decent media player. Physically, the W300i measures 90x47x25mm and weighs 94 grams with an impressive 9 hours maximum talktime and 16 days standby time. There is also a W300c model for mainland China. Expected availability is Q2 2006, and the handset will be available in black or white variants, depending on market.
