Nokia - 9300 Review

9300

1st January 2005

The Nokia 9300 is the most compact and lightest Communicator series phone to date, at 167 grams and 132x51x21mm.. making it only 75% of the weight of the bigger 9500 series, and just 68% of the weight of the long running 9210i. Consider that the first Communicator phone weighed almost 400 grams, and you'll see how far Nokia have come.

In size terms the Nokia 9300 is only a little larger than the popular 6310i handset, but despite the 9300's small size this is still an incredibly powerful and capable smartphone.

Like the 9500, the 9300 runs the Symbian Series 80 operating system, has a full QWERTY keyboard, a wide 640x200 pixel display in 65,000 colours, Bluetooth, GPRS and EDGE data (where supported), and tri-band GSM. Memory can be easily expanded using MMC/SD memory cards.

The 640 pixel wide display is great for surfing the web, working on documents with the 9300's Microsoft Office compatible applications, sending emails with the built-in email client or even playing Java downloadable games. The large QWERTY keyboard is much easier to use than the keypads on some rival smartphones.

Unlike the larger 9500, the Nokia 9300 doesn't have a digital camera or wireless Ethernet (although we understand that a Pop-Port camera may be available later as an option). However, taking these features out makes the the 9300 a much smaller and less expensive phone than the 9500, and an ideal straight replacement for any Nokia 9210i users, or an ideal phone for anyone who find laptops too bulky.
