Nokia - 6086 Review

6086

29th November 2006

Nokia has announced its second entry into the growing UMA (Unlicensed Mobile Access) market with the new 6086. UMA is a technology that allows a handset to roam between the standard mobile networks and WiFi access points seamlessly, possibly increasing coverage and lowering phone bills.

The Nokia 6086 is not a high-end handset, but its most attractive selling point will surely be its 802.11b/g WLAN connectivity for UMA calling. On top of UMA, the Nokia 6086 also boasts quad-band GSM connectivity and EDGE data compatibility. Other features are not so advanced, with the handset having only a VGA resolution camera, 128x160 pixel resolution passive CSTN LCD internal display, and black and white external screen. MicroSD memory expansion is available, and the handset can support memory cards up to 2GB. Bluetooth is also featured in the 6086, and the handset weighs in at just 84g (0.91'').

Nokia's new 6086 will be available sometime during Q1 2007 for a suggested retail price of 200 Euro (approximately USD260) before any operator subsidies are applied.
