Report: Mobile Music driving 3G uptake

A Frost amp; Sullivan report suggests that the desire to acquire digital music will drive the adoption of 3G mobile services. The trend of offering bundled music packages, combining a handset with service--similar to Verizon's strategy behind the Chocolate phone--will be ''a key driving force for mobile music,'' the group said, as will the growing availability of next-generation music-capable phones. The challenge, however, is to get around the siloed approach to data services, in which music is offered in one category while other data services are buried in their respective decks. ''The need to provide easy access to music services with minimum handset navigation is critical to the degree of success that the mobile music market can achieve,'' says lead analyst Pranab Mookken.
